Overview

What is ANTI MULLERIAN HORMONE; AMH ?

AMH test is used to assess the status of the ovaries in females & checks the ovarian reserve. This test indicates a woman's ability to produce eggs that can be fertilised for pregnancy. The number of eggs usually declines with age. Higher AMH levels mean more eggs & higher ovarian reserve in your body. However this test does not predict your fertility.

What is an Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) test?

Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is a hormone produced by reproductive tissues, including the testicles in males and the ovaries in females. Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) test measures the amount of AMH in the blood and is used to assess ovarian function, menopausal status, and evaluation of PCOS in women. An increased level of AMH is often seen with PCOS.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common health problem, in which numerous small cysts(fluid-filled sacs) develop in the ovaries, which affects a woman's hormone levels. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormones(androgen) levels. They also struggle to become pregnant and are at higher risk of developing complications during pregnancy.
