Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a technique that uses antibodies to check for antigens / markers in tissue samples. This is an excellent technique which shows exactly where a marker is located in the tissue taken out from your body. It is widely used for the diagnosis of cancers. Many times when the cancer has spread, it is difficult to know the exact site where the cancer began. This test panel is used to confirm those tumors whose origin is not known.

This panel is extremely useful to determine the cell line of differentiation of tumors of unknown primary site. Histopathologic morphology is the basis of diagnosis but many queries can remain unanswered. In such cases, IHC is the best method to obtain more information from the paraffin sections. It also helps to determine the lineage of the cells.
