The Immunoglobulin IgE Serum test measures the amount of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood.

The Immunoglobulin IgE Serum test is a safe, standard test with very minimal risks involved such as 

• Bleeding 
• Lightheadedness 
• Infection 
• Bruising 

The Immunoglobulin IgE Serum test results are measured in kUA/L. The normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories and is typically less than 64 kUA/L. 

The doctor will evaluate the results based on age, medical history, and other factors. 

Elevated levels of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) can be caused by a number of medical conditions including parasitic infections, some allergies and asthma, certain immune disorders, and some types of cancer. Additional tests are typically necessary to determine the underlying cause. 

It is also possible to have very low levels of total IgE as a result of some types of diseases that cause abnormal immune function.
