Beta-HCG (Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a hormone which is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is needed during the first 3 months of pregnancy and the levels are high. After 20 weeks of pregnancy, HCG levels decrease but still remain higher than non-pregnant state. After delivery or abortion, the levels fall rapidly within 24 to 36 hours. This test is used to confirm pregnancy and to diagnose abnormal growth in placenta called Gestational trophoblastic disease like Hydatidiform Mole & Choriocarcinoma.
Presumably, this is a reference to prenatal genetic testing, which evaluates a fetus's risk of genetic abnormalities or birth defects. It supports educated choices about pregnancy care and possible interventions made by parents and medical professionals.
HCG Blood Test: Needs a sample of blood, usually drawn from a vein. Determines the blood level of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Applied in the detection or tracking of pregnancy, evaluation of fetal health, and diagnosis of specific disorders such as trophoblastic illness or ectopic pregnancy.
HCG Urine Test: Needs a sample of urine, typically the first one of the day. Finds out if urine contains the hormone HCG. Frequently used as a preliminary pregnancy screening tool and in at-home pregnancy tests.
When an embryo implants outside the uterus, it results in ectopic pregnancy, which can be detected and ruled out with the use of HCG testing.
Results of an HCG test verify pregnancy, which is important prior to any surgery or medical treatment when pregnancy status is relevant.
By tracking pregnancy hormones, these tests make it possible to identify possible miscarriage risks early on.
The GTD category of uncommon tumors, which arise from the cells that would typically form the placenta during pregnancy, can be identified and diagnosed with the use of HCG assays.
Confirming pregnancy and detecting any anomalies in hormonal growth require this test.
Furthermore, it is essential for early tumor detection, which enables timely treatment beginning.
