Beta-HCG (Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a hormone which is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is needed during the first 3 months of pregnancy and the levels are high. After 20 weeks of pregnancy, HCG levels decrease but still remain higher than non-pregnant state. After delivery or abortion, the levels fall rapidly within 24 to 36 hours. This test is used to confirm pregnancy and to diagnose abnormal growth in placenta called Gestational trophoblastic disease like Hydatidiform Mole & Choriocarcinoma.
This is most likely a reference to prenatal genetic testing, which evaluates the probability that a developing infant will have genetic abnormalities or birth defects. It helps healthcare providers and parents make educated decisions about possible therapies and prenatal care.

When an embryo implants outside the uterus, it is known as an ectopic pregnancy, which can be identified and ruled out via HCG testing.
The results of an HCG test verify pregnancy when it matters, which is essential prior to any surgery or medical intervention.
These diagnostics allow for the early identification of potential miscarriage risks by tracking pregnancy hormones.
The GTD category of uncommon malignancies, which arise from the cells that would typically form the placenta during pregnancy, can be detected and identified with HCG tests.
